Global Estonian youth present at BaltHerNet youth seminar in Riga
On 21 November 2025, the BaltHerNet Youth Seminar will take place at the LaPa Museum in Riga, bringing together several young researchers from the Estonian diaspora. The aim of the seminar is to connect young scholars working in diaspora studies from different countries, offering an opportunity to share work in progress, exchange ideas, and receive feedback from international colleagues.
Among those representing Estonia are two young researchers: Tshinar-Kristi Shahmardan, an Estonian of Estonian-Azerbaijani background who grew up in Finland (participating online), and Australian Estonian Lachlan Bell.
Throughout the day, participants will also hear engaging presentations on topics such as narratives in Estonian refugee art and their expression in memorials, generational stories of Estonians in Canada, and the role of diaspora institutions in representing Estonia between 1988 and 1991.
The Youth Seminar offers a multifaceted perspective on Estonian experiences around the world and creates a platform for new forms of collaboration.
The seminar will be held at the LaPa Museum, located at Dzirnavu iela 84 (Bergs Bazaar).
The BaltHerNet Youth Seminar represents an important step in supporting the next generation of diaspora researchers and provides a valuable environment for sharing knowledge, experience, and inspiration.
