The 40th Estonian culture festival Martin Markkinat takes place in Helsinki this weekend
The Estonian cultural festival Martin Markkinat, or Mardi Laat, taking place on November 15-16, will transform the Cable Factory creative city in Helsinki into a little Estonia again for two days.
The Martin Markkinat cultural festival, which has been held since 1983 under the leadership of the Tuglas Society, is the largest event introducing Estonian culture and society taking place outside Estonia, and in previous years has attracted around 15,000 visitors.
This year, the festival's main attraction is a giant reed crown, which all festival guests can participate in making. The reed crown will be given to the Cable Factory as a Christmas decoration.
The festival is equally popular among Finns and Finnish-Estonians. People come to listen to meaningful conversations about Estonian society and culture, enjoy music, make plans for traveling to Estonia, meet friends and buy Estonian food, crafts and design. Over 100 entrepreneurs come to sell and introduce their products at the fair.
The Martin Markkinat cultural festival will take place at the Cable Factory Creative City (Kaapelitehdas, Kaapeliaukio 3, Helsinki) on Saturday, November 15th from 10 am to 6 pm and Sunday, November 16th from 10 am to 5 pm.
The festival is free for visitors.
