Over Troubled Water - A concert dedicated to the 81st anniversary of the Mass Flight
The Estonian World Council invites you to take part in a concert dedicated to the 81st anniversary of the Mass Flight of 1944.
The Mass Flight of 1944, also known as the Suurpõgenemine or Great Flight, was a mass exodus of approximately 70,000-80,000 Estonians in the late summer and autumn of 1944 to escape the advancing Soviet Red Army. Many Estonians fled by sea in small boats, but also by foot and other means of transportation, with thousands perishing on the hazardous journey. This flight was a desperate bid for freedom and survival, with many refugees hoping for a temporary escape from what was seen as the re-establishment of Soviet rule.
On September 19, 2025 at 5:00 PM, a concert will take place in the Great Chamber Hall of the Tallinn Music and Ballet School (Pärnu mnt. 5)
At the end of the concert, a history essay competition for school students will be announced in the MUBA Great Chamber Hall.
