To celebrate the release of Aleks Byrd’s new book Kindred Knits: Patterns from My Estonian Family Archives, we're running a knit-a-long! Join Aleks in knitting one or more of the 15 patterns in the book over 12 weeks in a series of virtual events from December 27- March 22. Aleks Byrd is an Estonian, Canadian, American knitwear designer based in Tallinn, Estonia. She is well known as a knitting ambassador for modern traditional Estonian knitting, Aleks has shared her knowledge of the little-known traditional Estonian techniques by putting a fresh twist on them for wearable designs with a connection to Estonia. Her latest book, Kindred Knits: Patterns from My Estonian Family Archives is a captivating collection of knitwear designs inspired by the old sketchbooks of her Estonian grandmother, Hilja Jukkum, from 1930s and some of her family’s heirloom crafts. The patterns showcase Estonian knitting styles such as Roosimine inlay, vikkel twisted stitches, and lace.During the knit-a-long, chat with Aleks and your fellow knit-a-long knitters in our online Ravelry group. We will be sharing tips, yarn and our project progress in a supportive group. There will also be virtual events such as 2 recorded zoom sessions and an Instagram live to further discuss our projects the inspirational stories behind each pattern. This is a great way to dive into modern Estonian knitting from the comfort of your home. For more details about the knit-a-long and virtual events see: https://www.aleks-byrd.com/kindred-knits-kal
